Checklist of Tips for Getting Started with Painting - Perfect for Beginnings
Get Ready & Stick With It Checklist
Set Yourself Up To Flourish With Painting & Creativity With These Simple Steps
Set up your studio space with storage, such as clear boxes, for your materials.
Give yourself adequate lighting in your studio. Buy a new floor lamp if you need to.
Gather your art materials & resources to get started (keep adding more as you need them).
Keep an eye open for materials you can use in your studio dates and keep stocking yourself up so you have a sense of abundance. Large watercolour pads, reams of paper, even cardboard boxes can be primed to paint on if you want to really let loose and play.
Create an intention to help you focus on what you want to get out of the program and how you want to FEEL as you allow yourself to express your creativity.
Paint, draw or write your intentions onto cards and put them around your space to nurture your creative spirit.
You may need to declutter your environment to make more SPACE for your creativity to Flourish.
Give yourself permission to say ‘no thank-you’ to opportunities and appointments that don’t align with your intentions, so you have time to do what your heart is calling you to do. When we say yes to one thing, we say no to something else (that’s often actually more important to us and our true nature).
Treat yourself with care; have your favourite beverage, buy your favourite herbal tea, find music you love, give yourself flowers. Make your studio dates soulful, safe and personally rewarding.
If you thrive with routine, establish a time to work, and stick to a weekly schedule of making art / going through the program. Or if you like to free flow a bit more, as I do, then give yourself containers to stay on track such as a weekly list of things to do and make sure to include “Flourish” on your list.
Buddy up with someone else who is committed to creative expression if you like and support each other on the journey. You can connect with a beautiful supportive community in our Creative Hearts Community if you’d like to have regular studio dates with other kind-hearted creatives.
Don’t worry about your skill level or how much you know - just start.
Begin using your visual journal to compile things you LOVE as a resource of inspiration.
Pin up / collect images, objects and shapes you find interesting and put them in your studio space.
Don’t think - do!
Come back to the present as often as you can, remembering to tune into your 5 senses.
Be extra kind and gentle with yourself.
Have fun!
PLAY. PLAY. PLAY!!!
